Er... Good question. I take it you are familiar with the "Silurians" problem (some guy called them Silurians because they lived in holes made out of rock from the Silurian era despite the fact they themselves were not from the Silurian era, then they started calling themselves Silurians as well)? Well, there's a similar issue with Sea Devils. They were called Sea Devils because they looked devilish and came out of the sea. But in one of the novels, the Silurians (!) refer to their nautical cousins as members of the Sea Devil Caste. I dunno, perhaps Earth Reptiles have the same cultural cues as mammals. And let's not even get started on Ice Warriors...
