On screen, the Doctor has been married twice:

  • The Tenth Doctor married Queen Elizabeth I after accidentally proposing to her in "The Day of the Doctor".
  • The Eleventh Doctor married River Song in an alternate timeline created when River overcame the Silence's programming and refused to kill the Doctor. ("The Wedding of River Song")

In the novels, the Eighth Doctor married Scarlette in order to symbolically tie him to the Earth so he could assist in defending the planet against the Babewyns. ("The Adventuress of Henrietta Street" (novel))

The Doctor may have been married at other times. The fact that he has a granddaughter (Susan) suggests that he may have been married before "An Unearthly Child". He might have been married at other times that have yet to be revealed, as he has spoken of being married and a father in his past.
