  • First 13th Doctor episode that really disappointed me. Wasn't horrible, just very disappointing.

The Dalek looked pretty nice, but acted like one of those toys that repeats the same sentences over and over. I get that the Daleks have always been like that to an extent, which is fine, so long as their catchphrases aren't overused. But when the Dalek shouts "Earth will be annexed" more than thrice in one minute, I start thinking of them as the boring shouting pepperpots from most of Moffat's era again. Something I found a bit odd was that the Dalek seemed to only really talk this way once it was inside of its casing. Because of how great of a concept and a threat the Daleks have been in the past, "Resolution" failed to live up to my expectations.

The ending was the only moment in this episode where I actually felt like something significant was about to happen; for a moment it seemed like Ryan would die. Then he didn't. And then I had to start waiting until 2020... I'm really, really tired of these year long breaks now.

    • Lol remember that one guy who had a clunky line about the fact he had a boyfriend and then died 5 seconds later. Chibnall is really giving some great LGBT representation! Oh, and that ‘We have to have a conversation’ scene was just a live-action re-enactment of a Facebook Boomer cartoon.

    • There's one question that I haven't seen anyone ask so I'm gonna ask it , are you ready ?

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE OTHER TWO THIRDS OF THE DALEK ?

There's nothing wrong with my keyboard but I think that this question needs to be shouted from the highest rooftop .

It isn't too difficult to imagine a sequel to this episode .

In my opinion this is easily the best episode out of all the new years specials that we've had .  ;-)

What do you mean, the other two thirds? Those just teleported from their original places because of the ultraviolet light and stuff to bring the Dalek back to life.

Also I rewatched this and enjoyed it a lot more. There are flaws in it, but there's also a lot to appreciate. Still can't get over the fact the Dalek was only in its casing for about 10-15 minutes. The ability to take control over people was a cool concept and also necessary for the story, so there was nothing wrong with it as an idea. But I think Chibnall waited far too long to show us the Dalek in its familiar armour.

    • Just had the chance to watch it. It was fine. Quite enjoyable in the moment, but I’m in no rush to re-watch. It was a bit of a mess overall, but with some very strong components. It was obviously a Chibnall script, but a good one by his standards.

I think I’m going to agree with one of the WhoTubers I follow that Chibnall is good at the overall ideas and high-level construction but shouldn’t be the one to actually write the scripts. This story could’ve been much tighter in the hands of a better writer. But overall, the component parts were still good, and I’m hoping Chibnall will be taking a more high-level direction of the show going forward and letting people who are better at the details do those details.
