  • There are all these subtle hints about rose and i want her back so bad ASDFGHJKL

    • We don't write for the show. This entirely depends on two things:

      1. The producers want to reuse the character

      2. Billie Piper wants to return to the role

Steven Moffat has his own characters and ideas. I don't think he needs to rehash Russell T. Davies' characters.

    • I've move this thread to the Watercooler because that's the place for general discussion about the show.

I don't think Rose will come back as in having a proper, scripted part, but I think it's more than likely that they will show archive footage of her at some point in the future, as they have done in the past occasionally to represent the Doctor remembering his past, along with many other old companions. There is a possibility for an anniversary appearance, but I don't think it's very likely.

    • I actually liked Rose, but it's a couple of years ago that I really watched those seasons and when I think about it, I don't think that she should return to the show, because there have to be some dramatic moments in the show and the show would suck if all of those lost companions came back. And for all Rose haters, try to see it from The Doctor's point of view, 'cos the show is all about him. He loved Rose, Rose loved him, and he didn't wanted her to go.

        Loading editor
    • I doubt that Rose will come back whats the point?

She loved the 10th incarnation not the 11th

and anyway the doctor had Amy Pond.. who could ever replace her

but now the doctor has Clara Oswald..

Exactly. Her story is done and dusted. The Doctor's moved on, maybe it's time for all these "bring back Rose" fans to do the same.

Not only that but Rose has been back, much more than most former companions. The only one who's had more reappearances than Rose is Sarah Jane & it took her 30-odd years to do it. If Rose is still well enough remembered in the mid-to-late 2030s, maybe then she should return.

        Loading editor
    • Sarah Jane is far more important than Rose.. Because Sarah's been with the doctor since the 3rd incarnation! John Pertwee.

        Loading editor
    • By the same logic, we should have Susan back because she's the Doctor's oldest companion! PS, I actually want to see her back at one point, since her actor's still alive. 50th maybe?

        Loading editor
    • The sadest part is that The actress who plays Sarah Jane smith has died :(

        Loading editor
    • So many actors have died. The actor for Romana I, Harry Sullivan, all of the first 3 Doctors, Sarah Jane Smith, Barbara Wright... I guess that's just the curse of the 50 year old show.

        Loading editor
    • Sarah Jane smith had such a Great impact on the show since the 3rd doctor to the 10th people loved her.

        Loading editor
    • Yea that's right I had forgotten that.. But still she'll be greatly missed I've seen her since the beginning of her to the end.

        Loading editor
    • So have I & she will be missed. It was a real shock when Elisabeth Sladen died &, in SJA Series 5 (what there was of it), she was in top form.

There's no real way yet to know if Rose will be as well remembered -- to quote the 7th Doctor, "Time will tell" -- but it's possible. If she is & Billie Piper is still around & active in 25-30 years, maybe they'll find a way to bring her back. Now would be too soon, though.

Perhaps, one day, we'll see a replay of the "School Reunion" argument but with Rose & a new companion (played by an actress who's not even been born yet).

        Loading editor
    • right Rose (Billie Piper) doesnt really have anyhting huge to remember her by like Sarah jane does

        Loading editor
    • To be fair to Rose, at the corresponding point in her DW career Sarah Jane didn't have anything "huge to remember her by", either -- except her impact on the audience. What makes Sarah Jane stand out from the crowd is that her impact has lasted.

Rose has (obviously) also had a major impact. Will it last in the same way? It's far too soon to tell.

        Loading editor
    • What's roses major impact? I know she's been with the doctor since the 9th incarnation

        Loading editor
    • If Rose hadn't had a major impact, there simply wouldn't be what 121, above, calls 'all these "bring back Rose" fans'.

As I say, the important question is whether or not her impact will last, the way Sarah Jane's has. That's not something that can be decided by discussing it now. It can be decided only by waiting & seeing if it actually does last.

        Loading editor
    • Yea I guess it's matter of time to see but How she hasn't been back to the show all that recently And if she did it'd be weird to see her with Matt smith or any other doctor in the future.

        Loading editor
    • The BBC has confirmed on their site that David Tennant and Billie Piper will return for the 50th . But the special is gonna be a drama documentary about the show, so I don't know if it's going to be Rose Tyler or Billie Piper.

        Loading editor
    • No, that's for the official BBC Doctor Who Special, not the drama about the making of the show. So, see http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/doctorwho/articles/DOCTOR-WHO-ANNOUNCES-ALL-STAR-CAST-FOR-50th-ANNIVERSARY, unless you don't want to be spoiled.

In short, the special will be multi Doctor! Now, how many will actually come back?

        Loading editor
    • Well, I'm really excited for that. I still hope they'll find a good way to bring her back, maybe something like "Time Crash", where The Doctor met his 5th incarnation. I think they should be using the Rose from the past, I mean before 'Doomsday'. If it would be Rose after 'Doomsday' the dramatic part of it would get ruined, and there just have to be dramatic parts in Doctor Who, because dramatic parts just add a nice and yet such a sad lack of potential to the show.

        Loading editor
    • Rose & Ten from somewhere between The Christmas Invasion & Army of Ghosts seems the most likely option.

I doubt that they'd use something like Time Crash again. The point of that was that it was so unlikely to happen & that would be ruined if it happened again. There are, anyway, all kinds of other ways it could be done, so I expect it'll be done a different way.

It is good that they'll be back.

        Loading editor
    • I kinda hope they go with more than just one old Doctor/companion duo. I think they should bring back all the living Doctors, and Rose should be with 9, along with Jack (because Jack is awesome, and I'm really hoping that Barrowman is lying when he said he wasn't returning) and maybe Donna comes with 10. Then there would obviously be 8 (who knows who he would be with. Maybe they get an actress to play one of his spin-off media companions), 7 with Ace, 6 with I don't really care if Mel or Peri, 5 with Tegan (and maybe Turlough. Definitely not Adric), and 4 with... I know both the actresses for Leela and Romana II are still around, and I would be equally happy with the return of either. And I would love it if they could fit Joe in there, even though her Doctor is dead. And Jamie McCrimmon. And Susan, of course. Sorry, this is really off topic. But if they are multi-Doctoring for the 50th, they have to go all out. And there must be a lot of interaction between the different incarnations. It's what really annoyed me about "The Five Doctors". They had all the Doctors, yet apart from 5 and 1, there was barely any interaction between them, and that's the most interesting part! I much prefer "The Three Doctors" as an anniversary special because we could see the interaction between 2 and 3.

And K9 must return. He's easily the best companion!

    • Does anyone know when the 50th for dr who is?

        Loading editor
    • I thought almost everyone knew that! The anniversary itself is November 23, 2013. That's a Saturday, so it's extremely likely that the episode will be aired on that date.

If K9 returns (& he's popular enough), it'll have the side-effect of emphasising that Sarah Jane isn't there.

At least, it will unless they're clever enough to find a way of bringing her back, too. That might be possible, if there's suitable unaired footage from somewhere (such as SJA) or if the two of them appear only in flashback.

    • Imamadmad wrote:
      ... 5 with Tegan ...

I'd like to see Tegan again but I'd rather she reappeared when there weren't too many others also reappearing. Perhaps they could feature her in a story set in Australia. They've not been there since January 1968, so the place is overdue another visit.

        Loading editor
    • As with Tegan, I want Ace to come back but not as just one of a crowd. There's too much danger of disappointing if reappearances are too hastily treated. "The Five Doctors" did about as well as it could have, given the numbers & the time available but that wasn't really good enough. There were simply too many characters for the screen time & the story -- & that's always going to be a problem if all the returns are packed into a single episode, even an extended one.

        Loading editor
    • There is still mark I and II which have nothing to do with SJA. If anything, Sarah Jane is the one least connected to K9, as he was only with her in 1 DW episode, 1 failed spin-off episode, and a scattered amount throughout SJA. When I think K9, I think Romana, as they were together for her entire run of the show.

        Loading editor
    • Many viewers will have seen K9 only with Sarah Jane & many more will have seen him recently only with her. Although only briefly, he did appear -- associated with Sarah Jane -- in a second DW episode, "Journey's End". Even if Mark I or II were used, any K9 would tend to be a reminder of her. That doesn't mean K9 couldn't be used. It does mean that his association with her would need to be taken into account.

Because she's so well known & loved, Sarah Jane's absence is going to be a factor -- even if she's not mentioned at all -- whether K9 appears or not but, if he does appear, that will act as an additional reminder for a lot of fans.

If any other version of K9 were used, some kind of explanation would be needed of where he'd come from. Mark I was last seen on Gallifrey, which is itself a problem. Mark II was last seen with Romana -- a Time Lord & also a problem.

Mind you, the Time War & time lock present a problem for the return of other companions, too, & a way round that problem might be devised that applies to several of them -- if that's what Moffat wants. It'd certainly be better if a single explanation could cover multiple characters, rather than having a different explanation for each one. Not only would multiple explanations take more time to put across but also they'd be less credible than a single explanation would be.

    • I personally think the 8th doctor should certainly be returning, since he only appeared in The TV Movie (I was 62 before).

        Loading editor
    • Yes, the 8th Doctor has certainly been short-changed in that respect.

        Loading editor
    • I think he could have been good if given his time to shine, so I do think it would be good to have him back. I haven't heard the audios/read the novels etc yet, but I've heard the character has had load of good development there.

    • I still think that Paul McGann should be returning. He only appeared once, his character was brilliant and we've never seen why he is half-human, he still looks similar to his look in 1996,... These are just a couple of reasons why he should be returning.

        Loading editor
    • OH YEAH I WOULD LOVE TO SEE The 8th dr come back He is brilliant and really should come back :)

    • Unfortunatelly she will, with Doctor 10.

    • You didn't like Rose?

        Loading editor
    • I see why 184 doesn't like Rose (if he doesn't), but I liked her, although it's been a long time ago I've actually watched episodes with her. I'm sure it will be better if she returns with ten and they're both from the past, because that wouldn't ruin the wibbly wobbly timey wimey parallelle-universe stuff.
