There have been three movies. Dr. Who & The Daleks and Daleks - Invasion Earth 2150 AD were adaptations of the TV storylines "The Daleks" and "The Dalek Invasion of Earth", respectively. (Steven Moffat has revealed that he originally wrote a scene for "The Day of the Doctor" that would have confirmed that the two movies exist as movies within the Whoniverse, but this scene was never filmed). Because the movies were remakes, featuring Peter Cushing as a human scientist named Dr. Who, Cushing is not counted among the 13 television incarnations of the Doctor.

The third movie, simply titled "Doctor Who", was a made-for-TV film released in 1996. It was a direct continuation of the TV series and thus takes place sometime after "Survival" and sometime before the minisode "The Night of the Doctor".
