"The Monk" (sometimes "the Meddling Monk") is the name used for the character (played by Peter Butterworth) who appeared in "The Time Meddler" & "The Daleks' Master Plan", who was the first of the Doctor's own people to appear on screen (other than the Doctor himself & his granddaughter Susan Foreman). The name "the Monk" was bestowed on him by other characters, because he posed as a monk & didn't himself give any name by which he could be called. He was also the first character other than the Doctor to be shown as having a TARDIS.
