John Hurt was 73 when he played the "War Doctor" in "The Name of the Doctor" (briefly) & "The Day of the Doctor" in 2013. Richard Hurndall was also in his 70s when he played the First Doctor in the 1983 special "The Five Doctors".

Of those who played the Doctor as a regular role, Peter Capaldi -- at 55 -- is tied for the oldest actor to debut as the Doctor, along with William Hartnell, who was also 55 when he debuted as the First Doctor in 1963.
